Packet Description:

“Introduced as Ruby Gold by John Lewis Childs of Floral Park, New York, in his 1921 catalog. Ben Quisenberry renamed it Gold Medal and listed it in his 1976 catalog [“The sweetest tomato you ever tasted. The yellow with steaks of red makes them very attractive and a gourmet’s joy when sliced.”] Our finest bi-colored tomato---orange-yellow splashed with red. Winner of the 2008 SSE Tomato Tasting.”

Our take:

We have grown these a few times and have had some success producing very large fruits with flavor to match. The packet describes “the sweetest tomato you ever tasted”. Certainly flavorful but not the sweetest. These gold, reddish behemoths are amazing on a BLT.

Also great wedged in salads, chopped in salsa, or pureed in pasta sauce.
